Natural stone retaining wall in St. Charles, Illinois.

Now that Spring Break is behind us, here in Chicago’s western suburbs, landscaping season is in full effect. You have undoubtedly seen plenty of landscaping trucks in your neighborhood, and Montano’s fleet is no different.

Among the garden design, paver installation, and other projects that we have underway, we continue our poolscape project on a bucolic, wooded property in St. Charles. The beautiful custom gunite pool installation by Premier Pools & Spas is complete, and we’re well into the next phase – natural stone installation and prepping for the pool patio.

Natural Stone Complements Mature Landscaping

Rustic natural stone wall on wooded lot in St. Charles, IL.

If you’re a homeowner in a wooded area, you probably chose your home very much on purpose; you appreciate the history and character of mature trees and plants. Natural stone is an excellent choice for a rustic landscaping look that feels true to the spirit of the location. With edges that are dissimilar, natural stone mimics the irregular lines of those towering oaks, maples, and pines. The new landscaping feels like a congruous extension of the environment rather than feeling like an afterthought – an important component of any effective landscaping design.

Drainage – Protecting Your Investment

Drainage pipes in foundational gravel for patio pavers.

Let’s be honest, there is nothing exciting about drainage. But it’s certainly a problem if it’s not working. Not only does improper drainage of your patio create a slippery walking surface, but it also will impact the visual appeal of your pavers over time. At Montano’s Landscaping, we are careful to install plenty of drains to carry water away from your patio and your home. (See all those green pipes? Those are where the drains are placed). Proper drainage protects your investment and decreases the maintenance cost to keep your patio looking beautiful and functioning effectively.

The Foundation Makes or Breaks Your Patio

As you can see from the pictures, the patio at this St. Charles home is going to be sizable. That makes it even that much more critical that the foundation laid below the pavers is set perfectly. Our expert crew carefully lays the foundation, ensures it is completely level, and checks it again multiple times before the paver installation begins. Our quality control process is detailed and thorough so each and every patio we design and construct can be enjoyed for years to come with minimal maintenance.
